Rainy day at the Zoo

For three weeks we have planned a family day for this past Saturday. It is the only day we have had free to spend time with the girls and wouldn't you know, it rained. We were determined to go to the zoo regardless. We only got to see 1/2 the animals since they are kept inside when the weather is bad, but we had a good time anyway. Here are some photos...

Another new baby!

Thursday night our horse Abbie gave birth to a beautiful baby girl....AND Saturday morning, our horse Comet also welcomed a healthy baby girl!

Look at these nosey cows....

Softball Season 2009

I am a bit behind in posting pics of the girls playing softball, so here they are. I don't have as many of Kam's games, will add more of her soon! Her league is a little more competitive, so I'm usually jumping up and down screaming during hers rather than snapping photos!

Otis makes the big time

Believe it or not, I am speechless. Just read this article in the Longview News Journal and you will understand why. I'm sorry I can't get the link to work properly, so just copy and paste the following for the story of the day.

Thank the LORD there is no reward being offered. OMG

"This is the happiest day of my life!"

Kam has had the saddest and the happiest days of her life all in the last 3 days, according to her.
Tuesday and Wednesday were detrimental. The girls have baby chickens in the barn and it didn't take long for chicken snakes to find them. Two days in a row, the snakes snuck in and killed 5 of their chicks. Ken is a tough little farm girl and thinks nothing of it, whereas Kam will be my PETA child, she is emotional and doesn't want to see anything hurt. It's a wonder she eats meat. It is just a matter of time before she becomes a vegetarian. The second snake was discovered by Granny. She is terrified of snakes and after consuming a chicken, he could not slither out of the pen. Granny locked made sure he was locked in the cage, went inside and brought our her gun with 1 bullet, leaving it in the barn for Brian to kill when he got off work. Poor Granny-we sure keep her busy.
Yesterday things on the farm improved. No chickens were killed AND we had a new baby!!
I was with ken in Harleton at a ball game and B was in Diana with Kam at practice. When I got in the car I saw several missed calls from Granny's house. Oh Lord, I just knew Kam broke her arm at practice or something happened to Don or Mary. Fortunately nothing bad happened--she was just trying to find us to come over in a hurry because Abbie was in labor! Granny and Sissy were worried that they would have to help birth the new little one, so were frantic to find us! Abbie, Ken's horse, gave birth to a beautiful, healthy new colt. We can't tell if it is a boy or a girl...Granny thought it was a boy until she realized what she saw between his legs was his tail. Abbie is solid white with bright blue eyes and her colt is an unusual brown, gray color. We aren't exactly sure....last we saw of him he was still wet.
Last night Kam said, "Momma, this is the happiest day of my life!" Sweet girl. Just 48 hours ago she told Pop, "Pop, this is the saddest day of my life."

Kindergarten Round-Up

This morning I took Ken to kindergarten round-up. She was so excited. When we got there we went to check out the bathroom, then sat in the library where I completed the paperwork and Mr. K, the principal, read her and another little girl a book. After that they copied our documents, so she and I roamed around her campus and quickly ended up looking out the window at the playground. Kindergarten and pre-k apparently have there own. Kam says she isn't allowed to play on it since she is a
3rd grader. This campus is only a year old and is so nice and only goes up to 3rd grade. I love that it is secure. The gates close at 8 am. and the doors remain locked all day. Teachers have a code to get in and visitors have to push a button for the office to check them out before unlocking the door and there are cameras everywhere.

On the way to daycare after taking care of our business, Ken began to talk about the backpack she'll need for big school. She said she'd just use the little one she got for Christmas or the one cousin Alli gave her years ago-it is also little, but she uses both all the time. It was so sweet to me that she didn't intend for us to go out and buy her a brand new one. I love that she didn't expect it, but you know I'll end up buying her something extravagant regardless. She has to have a new one for kindergarten! So I told her to think about what kind of backpack she'd choose if she could have whatever she wanted, and she said, "Oh, I'll have a lot to think of today." My sweet girl. She is so happy with simple things. I love that about her.

An Otis sighting!!

Many of you know that Otis, our beloved Emu, ran away. He was impossible to catch, so we let him go. B and I have been certain all this time that he is alive and well, considering this species can live off anything from grass to caterpillars, and every other type of animal is afraid of him, therefore he could never be anything else's prey.

Sure enough, Pop, Sissy, and our girls saw him! He was standing on the side of the road between their house and ours (we live about 3 miles apart) and supposedly looks happy and healthy. I just feel bad he's all alone. Maybe we should buy another one to turn loose with him.
